It's Saturday night. Movie night.
Everyone squeezes into the family car and heads out to see a motion picture.
On arriving, though, everyone stays put in the car and settles in to watch a good movie.
The Star-Vu Drive-In in Costa Mesa is a trip down memory lane for those old enough to remember watching a movie from a car.
There have been some changes since the drive-in's heyday, when there were more than 4,000 drive-in theaters in the country.
Long gone are the big metal box speakers hanging from every car door. Sound is now transmitted in stereo to each car via FM radio. Today's screens are even inflatable.
"I'm not old enough to remember drive-in movies," says Quin Trimbo of Long Beach. His girlfriend, Sharon Lussier, who is old enough to remember, can't believe what she just heard.
"Ouch, that was harsh, babe," she shoots back.
The Star-Vu Drive-In, in the Orange County Fairgrounds, shows first-run movies five nights a week year-round, except during the Orange County Fair's run.
